In the Now

What hopes and dreams have come to pass
Of life and love that never seem to last
With eyes shown bright of certainty
And hearts full youthful brevity

Did we know them when they neared
So close to truth we feared
Or with age have we grown lazily
Times of past shifting hazily

Through glasses rose we oft apply
A filter on the days gone by
Yet always do we seem to shift
To cast that shade upon today with thrift

Never fuller has been my heart
Of joy, love, silliness ne’er to part
Among this family we have made
For nothing in this world I would trade
